There's a lot to brief on approach charts, but using a pattern across the chart makes it much easier. How and what you brief might be determined by an airline or operator you fly for. Even if you're a general aviation pilot, you should still have a pattern in mind that you use every time you brief an approach 1) Airport Name And Approach In Use

R-310 is the 310 Radial from the Las Vegas (LAS) VOR. Assuming you had the runway insight at the DA you would continue your approach and landing as normal. Charts are available for download from various sites listed in the Resources section of our site.

24 Dec 2016 Reading a missed approach procedure is a critical step toward The profile for an NDB approach is essentially identical to VOR and LOC

2.1 - The header This is the header, where all important information about the approach is published. Reading from left to right/top to down, you have: First column 1. City and state in which the airport is located 2. The navigation aid (ILS in this case) identifier, frequency and course. I need help reading a chart for a VOR approach. Please see the chart to get the idea: The red line is the path im coming from (im using VOR to VOR navigation). The VOR station at KMCO is off the field, so that makes it a bit more difficult to me. Here you can see the profile of the glide slope for the approach we want to fly. You can see on the left side the runway threshold as RWY 27R 78’ this means, runway 27 right 78 feet. TCH 58’: Runway threshold crossing height associated to the charted glide slope or vertical descent angle. If you have to transition from a VOR, you aren't going to be able to fly it if the aircraft only has an ADF fitted. While we are on the subject of equipment, the other trap is that very occasionally equipment needed to identify the missed approach point (MAP) and holding fix is not listed on the approach chart, Do you know your approach charts? 1) What does the 'T' inside the triangle mean? According to the Chart User's Guide, when a 'T' appears in the notes section, it means the airport has IFR takeoff minimums and/or Departure Procedures published in the Terminal Procedures Publication (TPP). As the name implies, VOR approaches are approach procedures which use VORs as the primary navigational aid. A lot of VORs are located at the airport, but there are many which are located away from the airport. Approach procedures can be based on either. Tune into the VOR station you’re using to navigate. Locate the VOR station you want to use on the VFR and IFR charts, and look for the radio frequency in the small box next to it. Make sure the station is correct by comparing the Morse code identification to what you hear on the radio frequency.
